START PREVIOUS NEXT ENDWhat are Spin Waves? |
. The animated diagram is a symbolic representation of spin waves propagating through the precession of individual unpaired electrons within the atomic lattice of a magnetic material. . Although this diagram shows spin waves propagating in just 1 direction, spin waves can propagate in all directions in a magnetic material. But magnetic materials can be designed to promote the propagation of coherent spin waves only in preferred directions. . Even compensated spins can precess and counter precess but this is difficult to detect. . In this diagram the “electron spin” motion is not shown. . Only the gyroscopic precession of each electron is shown. . The diagram shows the electrons from a side view of their precession axes. . The spin waves are formed from the interaction among their individual magnetic fields. . Spin waves can transport energy and information from one location to another. . Short and long range spin wave interactions can occur among particles causing fluctuations in the sea of standing waves among all matter. |
